Family Fun

Most family’s that are close usually have something that brings them together, like game night or camping. My family has hunting. Every year my aunt and uncle along with their two kids drive from New York Mills to my grandparent’s house in Pengilly. Deer season is the time of year that brings us together. The way it works is early in the morning my two uncles, my two cousins, and my gramps and I all head out to position ourselves in this valley so that no matter which way they come through we can at least get a shot off. My story though begins around one or two in the afternoon after the prime hours that the deer move on their own. On this day I was riding with my gramps in his two door diesel pickup. We had decided to drive along the creek to see if we could kick a few up. We had driven about two miles along the creek in one of our fields south of the house. To stay awake and stay warm we drink coffee or hot chocolate so we had to stop quickly to take care of business. I had my back turned to a hill where the wind was coming from when off to my left I hear a yell followed by a bunch of shots from my gramps 30-06 and I had to finish as quickly as possible as I reached for my 30-30 rifle and turn to see a large buck running across the field and leap into a neighbors field. Luckily we also own the field on the other side of it and the field is next to it is a friend’s field. As fast as I have ever seen me and my grandfather move we were in the tuck and turned around in seconds and in hot pursuit. To get ahead of the buck my gramps had to drive around the field as fast as possible to our field on the next hill. To outrun a deer you must move very fast and my grandfather decided that seventy miles an hour across a cornfield was the way to go. Naturally corn fields are not smooth. Looking ahead we didn’t see what was coming, a deep dip in the field that created the perfect ramp. My gramps one and a half ton pickup was at least five feet off the ground and it was the craziest thing I have ever done in my life and it was with my gramps. Later on we found a hitch that weighs around thirty pounds about eighty yards from the dip that was originally in the back of the truck. Finally we reached the hill where the buck was headed, but we were too late. My uncle and cousin had spotted it and were taking shots at it while it ran away. My gramps and I hopped back in to go around the hill to get to it before it reached the creek again. As we took off we could see the enormous buck running in a zigzag motion. The only way I could describe it is that it looked like the Matrix. You could see my uncles and cousin’s bullets hitting the dirt left and right of it, it was amazing, but as the enormous buck reached the top of the hill my cousin got lucky and hit it in is hind quarters. That slowed it down when my gramps and I caught up to it at the edge of the creek. I was sitting on the windowsill ready with my gun. I was only about twenty feet away when I fired but as soon as I fired the tire on my side in the front dropped into a coyote hole or something and my shot missed by a mile. Almost instantly after the buck was in the woods trying to lose us crossing the creek. My uncle and cousin seemed to show up right as it went into the woods so they took off after me as I ran through the woods after the buck. We all stopped at the edge of the steep drop into the creek to see the buck climbing up the other side and before I could raise my rifle again a loud shot echoed through the trees and a gaping hole opened on the buck’s neck, my uncle had finished it. Once we could get across to the buck we found it was a ten pointer, and the biggest I had ever seen in person. This has become a yearly thing in my family and it brings us all together and makes us a team. Without a family that works together for one goal we would never had even ever seen that buck again. Family makes things in life fun. No matter what you do in your life your family will always be there to help you out as we did each other that day. Most families just hunt alone but we like to make it a group effort to make it more fun. Bob Dylan: The Freewheelin ¹ Bob Dylan When I was growing up, Bob Dylan was more of a name on paper to me than a person. I knew Peter, Paul & Mary's covers of his songs better than I knew his. My parents listen to a lot of folk music--Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, the Weavers, Pete Seeger, Woody and Arlo Guthrie--but somehow Bob Dylan never entered the mix. Even after it somehow filtered into my consciousness that he'd written these songs I'd known all my life, that he was a performer, he remained mysterious. Photographs always seem to show him looking down, away from the camera, an expression of brooding concentration fixed on his face. When I heard the original versions of the songs I knew, like "Blowin' In the Wind," I liked the covers better. I liked the melody and harmony. Dylan's vocal style was a little too slipshod. It wasn't quite talking but it wasn't quite singing, he slurred his words and ended lines before it felt like they were done, and his timing was off. But it's that ambiguity--clear as spli t pea soup, as they say--that keeps drawing me back. Like the lines that end early, leaving you with the sense that the important part was left unsaid, more is implied by Dylan than said straight out. I keep going back, wanting to hear more, hoping that maybe this time he'll finish that thought. Maybe this time I'll get it. But I never quite do. He's never appealed to me as a singer, but his style and character are unmistakable, his charisma magnetic and powerful. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan was Dylan's first album of almost-all original songs, the album that announced his potential and talent to the world, announced the arrival of folk music's "poet-prophet." (Friedlander 139) It's pre-electric Dylan, rootsy sounding, just the man, a guitar, and a harmonica. That a man could write new songs that sound so traditional--songs like "Down the Highway" and "Talkin' World War III Blues" aren't a far cry from Leadbelly or John Lee Hooker--is part of the genius, the intrigue, of Bob Dylan. He's simultaneously traditional and revolutionary. Some songs have achieved this mythic antiquity--sounding like they were written much more than forty years ago--over time. "Oxford Town" alternates (often mid-line) between Dylan's characteristic hoarse, thin growl and a lower, clearer, more resonant tone reminiscent of Pete Seeger.

Washington, District of Columbia named after Christopher Columbus, has played a unique role in the wars of our nation and has been dramatically affected by their awesome events. The battles, conflicts and politics of war have forever changed America. During the War of 1812, the British burned the newly-built capital; The Civil War transformed Washington District of Columbia (DC) from a sleepy Southern village into the powerful capital of a reunited nation. Through the course of World War II Washington became the nerve center of an unprecedented war effort and headquarters of the postwar free world. During and after the Civil War, thousands of slaves fled to Washington D.C., thinking that if they reached the capital, they would be safe and free. However, the government was totally unprepared for an influx of this magnitude. There was no place for them to live, very little food, and no employment. Sojourner Truth was a very inspirational woman who was a former slave that worked with th ese people trying to improve their living conditions and was later employed by the government’s Freedmen’s Bureau. Wonderful black people like Sojourner Truth and James Wormley who was a successful hotel owner, were a very essential component to black’s rise in DC. They gave hope to hopeless black people. Their lives demonstrated that black people could rise above the turmoil and uproar. Before our nation’s capital rested as Washington D.C it was located in New York City temporarily. A year later it was moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A fierce rivalry developed between the northern and southern states over the location; their economic interests were completely different. The states believed that the newly appointed city to be the nations capital would have more power over the remaining states, even congressmen were aware that the area receiving the capital would gain wealth and political influence. Some of the competing cities offered land and money as incentives. This discrepancy that was finally resolved by a political compromise.

Biome Broadcast   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  LANCASTER / PENNSYLVANIA This morning Darian, Danny, Laura, and I were bored so we decided that we would all go on a hike at Blue Ridge Mountain. All of us went home, got our hiking equipment, and packed a lunch. We then met at my house. I drove all of us up to Blue Ridge Mountain. We got there in a half hour it was around 10:30 AM.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It was probably one of the most beautiful days we had all year, it was around seventy to seventy five degrees and there was barely any humidity. Even though we have all four seasons and varied amounts of precipitation throughout the year it felt like it was either a scorching humid summer day or it was a freezing snowy winter day. It felt like we only had two seasons all year either summer or winter.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When we stepped out of the car we could see and hear birds singing. We could also smell, hear, and see the beautiful trees swaying in the gentle breeze. Pictures of a robin and a cardinal that we saw while stepping out of the car. We all got our gear out of the car and walked over to the trails. We had to decide what trail to take. We had three choices the first trail was half a mile long, the second trail was two miles long, and the third trail was four miles long. Since it was such a beautiful day we all decided to take the third trail that was four miles long.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  We started hiking around 11:00 AM. While we were hiking we heard wings flapping, we all turned and saw a robin fly towards the ground, pick up a worm, and feed it to her babies. Everyone thought that it was cute. After, we watched the robin for a while we continued hiking until 12:30 PM.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Everyone was hungry so we decided to find a spot to eat our lunches. We found a perfect spot, it had a great view, a patch of beautiful dandelions, and a big beautiful maple tree to sit under. A picture of the great view we had during lunch. A picture of one of the many dandelions that were in the patch that we were sitting next to during lunch. A picture of the maple tree we sat under while eating lunch. We all sat down on the big blanket that we had brought along and ate our lunches. Laura went over and picked a dandelion and smelled it. We talked for a while and admired how big and beautiful the Blue Ridge Mountain was.

The succession of the pieces (Bach – Toccata in D minor, Mozart – Sonata in B flat, Liszt – Transcendental Etude No. 9, and Rachmaninoff – Sonata no. 2 in B-flat Minor) are arranged in order to typify the transgression of music development from the contrapuntal baroque form represented by Johann Sebastian Bach, the gradual transposition of the sonata form between the rococo and classical eras through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the combination of tonal heaviness and virtuosity as found in the compositions of Franz Liszt and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Mozart’s sonatas are generally identified as playful tunes ranging from early pieces which show influences of other composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn to later developments which clearly show Mozart’s musical genius. His sonatas are a gradual transition from the polyphonic form to the utilization of the monophonic or single melody form. On the other hand, Liszt and Rachmaninoff represented a total break from the early baroque/classical periods wherein the romantic period identified their works to be focused on expression or emotion while maintaining regard from the development of the classical sonata form. Liszt’s compositions are noted for its technical beauty and virtuosity requirement while Rachmaninoff’s compositions are generally heavier compared to the varying degrees of tonal structure found in Liszt’s (Copland 91). First, we analyze Bach’s Toccata in D minor. He gave this monster life and limitless power and intelligent, obviously this monster can survive and cause great harm to him and his love ones. If he actually stayed with the monster and taught him how to live and act towards other beings, things would’ve of turned out totally different. Macbeth experienced the same exact lines of events and feelings that victor did in his life. If Macbeth thought of the acts that he was committing, he would’ve of realized that the only thing he is accomplishing in killing the king, is damning himself, his only loved ones. It is obvious that if he committed this act of betrayal and defiance of a higher order, only bad can occur from this. He didn’t realize this right after this act just like victor. He continued to do wrong because of his ambitious mind, which Victor also experienced. He continued acting on his relentless ambition to secure his throne and his undying passion to seek happiness which at the time was being king for him. Which was completely wrong. Knowledge is power and power can corrupt any human being. Victor and Macbeth had the opportunity to achieve their dreams and goals. This thought corrupted both their minds. As both Victor and Macbeth succeeded in achieving their dreams, they experienced different feelings. Chris put it all out there. Herren talks about his substance abuse in brutally honest detail. He describes how his drug addictions caused him his basketball career and almost his life. How his NBA trip was short live as he spent more time chasing his next drug buy then working on his jump shot. Chasing what started out as Alcohol then to coke then to oxy cotton then to heroin caused his NBA career to fizzle out. How I related to the story was basically the same the story was told expect from another view. I witnessed a great basketball not as big as Chris Herren but good enough to get his name out there and play college basketball. This kid was great just like Chris a good person with many thing ahead in his life. Toward the end of his senior year I don’t know what you would call it. Another assumption includes beliefs and values including the goals, identified goals and spoken values (Malloch Porter O’Grady, 2009). These assumptions can be driven by groups or by individuals who have influence inside the institute. However, it can be challenging to make these underlying assumptions visible and used to add value. Quantum leadership focuses on the process and embraces that it is indefinite and limitless and does not place emphasis solely on the results and how one gets there. Quantum leadership embraces finding potential. It is not always controllable or predictable and that is a good thing because a leader should become worried once everything becomes predictable (Malloch Porter O’Grady, 2009). Quantum leadership lets go of control and opens up the opportunity for various leadership styles to emerge to align the motivation between team members (Malloch Porter O’Grady, 2009). It emphasizes collaboration between members and building upon others strengths but knowing their weaknesses and limitations. Quantum leadership instills meaning into leadership but it does have its own action plans. The action plans within the organization, however, do focus on accomplishing goals appropriately and meaningfully (Malloch Porter O’Grady, 2009). The group must have good communication and interaction within the organization to accelerate success which can be aligned by the leader. The individual’s interest in the organization is also taken into account (Malloch Porter O’Grady, 2009). Path-Goal Theory The path-goal theory is based on identifying a leader’s motivation or style that best suits the employee to facilitate goal achievement. This theory focuses on three main aspects of leadership which include the leader, the subordinate or the secondary, and the environment (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The characteristics of the subordinate include their own perception of their abilities and control and leaders can adapt to this perception by approaching the leadership from different angles based on their understanding. Characteristics of the environment focus on the structure of the task and the work group. This behavior enables the employee to become empowered, it increases their motivation, and improves employee satisfaction which assists the employee in being a productive member of the institute (Wofford Liska, 1993). A main concept of the path-goal theory is that the leaders will make rewards available in order to motivate their subordinates (Wofford Liska, 1993). These rewards can be adaptable and dependent on the situation at hand which makes the leader vulnerable to opening up to acclimation. In this theory, various different styles of leadership are used for different situations. There are four original types of leadership behaviors in the path-goal theory which include directive, supportive, participative, and achievement oriented. In directive leadership, the leader is specific and gives directions to the followers about what needs to be done and includes details on how it should be done, the expectations, and when it needs to be done (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The leader will still provide guidance along the way. This style of leadership can be used when dealing with a complex or unstructured task of if the subordinate is inexperienced (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The second leadership behavior is supportive leadership. In this style, the needs and well-being of the subordinate is taken into consideration, as well as, creating an approachable work environment (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). This is a larger focus than completing the task at hand. This style may be used when the task is boring or puts the subordinate at risk for physical or psychological distress.The third style of leader behavior is participative. In this style, the subordinates are consulted in the process and those ideas can be used when making decisions (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The subordinate’s opinion is highly respected in this style and often this can be used when the subordinates are the experts of the content matter. The fourth style of leader behavior is the achievement oriented leader. In this behavior, high expectations are set for the subordinates and challenging goals are set. A high level of performance is expected from the subordinates is expected while the leade r instills confidence in their abilities (Wofford Liska, 1993). The path-goal theory is flexible in that the leader adapts to the subordinate, taking into consideration the environment and task at hand. This situational framework is strength for understanding how various leader behaviors affect the efficiency and satisfaction of the workers. It also incorporates motivation principles of the expectancy theory (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). However, it can also be complex to try to integrate many different aspects of leadership. Comparing Quantum Leadership and Path-Goal Theory One major difference between quantum leadership and the Path-Goal theory is control. The quantum leader is about aligning motivation between team members and is open to different views on a subject. The path-goal theory focuses on discovering the best behaviors for subordinates and attempts to control subordinates behavior with incentives. Also, the path-goal theory refers to subordinates indicating a hierarchal system where the quantum leader focuses on horizontal communication (). Yet, a similarity is that the leader in the path-goal theory works to facilitate task achievement for the followers and in quantum leadership the leader is focusing on aligning motivation between other team members which results in task achievement. However, quantum leadership is always continuously evolving and is a process, whereas in the path-goal theory there is a specific goal and expectancies on how to get from point a to b. Conflict Scenario In 2010, I started working as a radiographer at Nationwide Children’s hospital. Before starting my new position, I had worked as a student assistant in the radiology department and I was now a peer to those who had been over me. While running images for a fellow co-worker, I noticed she would withhold images to â€Å"run† them herself. As I observed my co-worker and her method, I noticed she was deleting images when there was likely potential for motion. One day, an image was deleted after the wrong radiograph had been taken. A forearm was taken instead of an elbow and the forearm radiograph was deleted. After the elbow came back negative, the physician ordered a forearm and therefore the patient was exposed twice for the same picture unnecessarily. I found this odd, since in every other aspect my co-worker upheld patient safety and often advocated for it. The reject image rate which is calculated for patient safety is based off the images rejected in the computer syste m. Since there were images not being accounted for, an inaccurate portrayal of data occurred. When my co-worker was confronted, she stated that the information from those images was not beneficial for the department and claimed she was unaware that it held any wrongdoing. In my opinion, this is a data-based conflict due to the lack of information and limited access to information. There is some value based conflict components presented in the scenario but the big picture is that data is not being collected and therefore it is affecting patient safety. Since that information would be extremely important for the effectiveness of the department and patient safety, certain measures or in-services were not being implemented based upon false information. The clinical work suffers as a result of not acquiring the appropriate information (54). The information and how it is generated, as well as, how it is distributed and the importance of it all have an impact on the effectiveness of the organization, as well as, its integrity (55). As a quantum leader in this situation, one would need to ensure that proper processes and generation of information are set in place and appropriately structured within the organization. To address the issue presented in the scenario, as a quantum leader I would want to get a basic understanding of the issues at hand and hear from the co-worker their issue with the process put into play, ask her to clarify her reasoning for why the information is not beneficial to the department, and what her feelings are on the issue. I would want to know if she has fear about running images that have â€Å"mistakes† on them and why. I would bring up patient safety with the co-worker for common ground. I would discuss with the co-worker how I praise her advocacy of patient safety in all other aspects and ask her to reflect on the situation to determine if there were patient safety issues involved. Also, this conversation would need to be done in a safe place so she felt open to discussing the conflict at hand. Throughout the conversation, I would discuss expectations for patient safety and assure the co-worker that the data collection system put in place is for the patient safety and for the employees. That information is not used to get employees into trouble, but to help determine in a non-blame way, what could be done in the future to prevent unnecessary exposures to patients.
